Managing Server Backups
Backups are one of those things you don't think about until you need one. A bad mod, an accidental file deletion, a config that broke everything — backups fix all of that with one click.
When to Back Up
Get in the habit of backing up before:
- Installing new mods or maps
- Changing server configuration
- Updating the server
- Letting someone else admin your server
Basically: if you're about to change something, back up first.
Creating a Manual Backup
- Go to the Backups tab in your panel
- Click Create Backup
- Wait for it to finish (usually a few seconds to a minute depending on server size)
That's it. The backup captures everything — your config, mods, maps, server files, all of it.
Scheduled Backups
For set-it-and-forget-it protection:
- Go to the Backups tab
- Look for the Schedule section
- Set your preferred frequency (daily is a good default)
- Save
Scheduled backups run automatically. Your panel keeps a rolling set of backups, so old ones get cleaned up automatically to save disk space.
Restoring from a Backup
Something went wrong? Here's how to roll back:
- Stop your server (important — don't restore while it's running)
- Go to the Backups tab
- Find the backup you want to restore
- Click Restore
- Wait for it to finish
- Start your server
Your server is now exactly how it was when that backup was created. Any changes made after the backup are gone — mods added, config changes, all of it.
Tips
- Backups are cheap insurance. A 30-second backup can save you hours of re-configuring.
- Label your backups. If your panel supports notes, add context like "before adding drift mods" or "working config."
- Don't rely only on scheduled backups. If you're about to make a big change, create a manual one right before.
- Test a restore occasionally. Make sure your backups actually work before you're in a crisis.
