How to Install Mods on Your BeamMP Server
Mods are half the fun of BeamMP. Whether it's a crazy fast hypercar or a lifted truck, here's how to get them onto your server.
Where to Find Mods
The main source is the BeamNG.drive mod repository. Download the mods you want as .zip files. Don't extract them — the server needs them zipped.
Important: Only mods that work in singleplayer BeamNG.drive will work in BeamMP. If a mod is broken in single player, it'll be broken in multiplayer too.
Using the Mod Manager (Recommended)
This is the easy way:
- Go to the Mod Manager tab in your panel
- Drag and drop your
.zipmod files into the upload area - Wait for the upload to finish
- Restart your server
That's it. The Mod Manager handles file placement automatically.
Toggling Mods On/Off
Don't want to delete a mod but need to disable it temporarily? The Mod Manager has a toggle switch next to each mod. Flip it off, restart, and the mod won't load. Flip it back on when you want it again.
This is super handy for tracking down mod conflicts.
Manual Upload (File Manager)
If you prefer doing things by hand:
- Go to the File Manager tab
- Navigate to
Resources/Client - Upload your
.zipmod file - Restart the server
Same result, just more steps. The Mod Manager is usually the better option.
After Installing Mods
You must restart your server for new mods to take effect. Players also need to restart their game (or at minimum, disconnect and reconnect) to download the new mods.
When a player joins your modded server, BeamMP automatically sends them the mod files. They don't need to install anything manually — it just works.
How Many Mods Can I Add?
Technically, as many as your disk space allows. Practically, keep an eye on two things:
- Disk space — each mod is a few MB to a few hundred MB
- Join times — players have to download all your mods when they first connect. 50+ vehicle mods means a long wait for new players
A good sweet spot for most servers is 10-30 vehicle mods. Check performance optimization for more on this.
Troubleshooting
- Mod doesn't show up in-game? Make sure it's a
.zipfile inResources/Client, not nested in a subfolder - Server crashes after adding a mod? Remove the last mod you added and restart. See fixing mod conflicts
- Players can't see the mod? They need to disconnect and reconnect (or restart their game) after you add new mods
