What is BeamMP?
BeamMP is a free, open-source multiplayer mod for BeamNG.drive — the soft-body physics driving simulator. It lets you drive, race, crash, and mess around with other players online in real time. Think of it as the mod that turns a single-player sandbox into a multiplayer playground.
How BeamMP Works
BeamNG.drive — The Game
BeamNG.drive is a vehicle simulation game built on soft-body physics. Every crash, bump, and roll is physically simulated — metal deforms, wheels break off, and suspension compresses realistically. It's available on Steam and has a massive modding community with thousands of custom vehicles, maps, and scenarios.
BeamMP — The Multiplayer Mod
BeamMP adds online multiplayer to BeamNG.drive. Multiple players connect to a shared server, drive on the same map, and see each other's vehicles in real time — including crash physics. It synchronises vehicle positions, damage states, and inputs across all connected players. The mod is free and open-source.
The BeamMP Launcher
Players download the BeamMP launcher from beammp.com. The launcher starts BeamNG.drive with multiplayer enabled, shows a server browser where you can find and join servers, and automatically downloads any mods or maps the server requires. No manual setup, no file copying — just pick a server and drive.
BeamMP Servers
Servers are the backbone of BeamMP. Each server runs a specific map, can load custom mods and vehicles, set player limits, and run server-side plugins for custom game modes like racing, demolition derby, or roleplay. Servers can be public (visible in the server browser) or private (invite-only via IP or password).
Official vs Community Servers
Official Servers
Run by the BeamMP development team. Used for testing new features, special events, and providing a baseline multiplayer experience. Usually vanilla maps with no mods. There are only a handful of these.
Community Servers
Hosted by players, communities, and hosting providers. This is where the action is — custom maps, mod packs, racing leagues, drift circuits, roleplay servers, and demolition derbies. Community servers make up 99% of the BeamMP ecosystem and are what most players spend their time on.

Mods, Maps & Plugins
How mods work in BeamMP
BeamMP supports the same mods as BeamNG.drive — custom vehicles, maps, props, and skins. Server owners place mod files in their server's resources folder. When a player connects, the BeamMP launcher automatically downloads any mods the server requires. Players don't need to install anything manually.
On top of client mods, BeamMP supports server-side plugins written in Lua. Plugins like Cobalt Essentials add features like chat commands, vehicle management, permissions, and custom game logic.
