How to Cancel Your Server Subscription
Need to cancel your server? No problem — you can do it in a few clicks from your dashboard. Your server stays active until the end of your billing period, so you won't lose any time you've already paid for.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Go to Your Service
- Log in at connecthosting.net
- Click Dashboard in the top menu
- Click on the server you want to cancel
Step 2: Open the Settings Tab
Once you're on your server's dashboard page, click the Settings tab. You may need to scroll right on the tab bar if you're on mobile.
Step 3: Scroll to the Danger Zone
Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page. You'll see a section called Danger Zone with a red border.
Step 4: Click "Schedule Cancellation"
Click the Schedule Cancellation button. You'll be asked to select a reason for cancelling:
- Too expensive
- Switching to another provider
- No longer need a server
- Server performance issues
- Missing features
- Just testing / temporary use
- Other
Select the reason that best fits, then click Confirm Cancellation.
What Happens After You Cancel
- Your server stays active until the end of your current billing period
- No further charges will be made
- Your data is preserved until the cancellation date
- You'll receive a confirmation email with the exact cancellation date
Can I Undo a Cancellation?
Stripe customers: Yes! After scheduling a cancellation, you'll see a "Keep My Server" button on your service dashboard. Click it anytime before the cancellation date to resume your subscription.
PayPal customers: Unfortunately, PayPal cancellations cannot be reversed. If you change your mind, you'll need to purchase a new server.
Important Notes for PayPal Users
PayPal subscriptions work slightly differently:
- Cancellation takes effect immediately on the billing side (no more charges)
- Your server still stays active until the end of the period
- You'll be asked to confirm two checkboxes before proceeding
- Back up your data before cancelling — this action cannot be undone
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get a refund?
Cancelling schedules your server to stop at the end of the billing period. If you need a refund for a recent charge, please open a support ticket.
Where is the cancel button?
Dashboard → Click your server → Settings tab → Scroll to Danger Zone → Schedule Cancellation
Can I cancel from the billing page?
Not directly. The billing page at Dashboard → Billing shows your upcoming charges, but cancellation is done from each individual server's Settings tab.
What happens to my server files?
Your files are preserved until the cancellation date. After that, the server and all data are permanently deleted. Make sure to download any files you want to keep before the cancellation date.
I cancelled but still see upcoming charges
If you just cancelled, it may take a moment for the billing page to update. The cancellation confirmation email confirms your server won't be charged again. If you still see charges after 24 hours, contact support.
Can I downgrade instead of cancelling?
Yes! If you want a smaller plan instead of cancelling entirely, go to your server dashboard and look for the Change Plan option. You can also switch to a free server if you just need the basics.
