Most voice chat problems on a BeamMP server come down to one of four things: the link opened in the wrong window, the microphone was refused, the player isn't actually on the server, or the server plugin hasn't loaded yet. This article works through each symptom, starting with the ones players hit, then the ones you'll see in the dashboard.
For setup and settings, see Proximity voice chat for your BeamMP server.
Player-side problems
"Microphone blocked", even after I click Allow
Nine times out of ten the link opened inside BeamNG's own in-game window, not a real browser. The game tries to open the /voice link itself, and that built-in window has no microphone to grant, so it looks exactly like a denied permission no matter how many times you retry.
The fix: the link is already on your clipboard (the mod copies it before it tries to open anything). Alt-tab out, paste it into Chrome, Firefox or Edge, press Turn on voice chat, and allow the microphone there.
If you're definitely in a real browser and still see "Microphone blocked", click the padlock in the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then press Try again on the page. No reload needed.

The browser never asked for my microphone
The permission prompt can open behind the game. Alt-tab to the browser and look for it at the top of the window. If it never appears, check the padlock: the site may already be set to Block from an earlier attempt.
"You are not on a Connect server right now"
The page can't find you on a server's voice room. Either you haven't joined yet, the server you're on doesn't have voice switched on, or it isn't hosted with Connect. Join the server, and if the page doesn't connect on its own within a few seconds, type /voice in chat and open the fresh link.
"That link has expired, or you have left the server"
Links are single-use and tied to your current session. Type /voice in game for a new one.
Nobody can hear me, but the bar on the page moves
The bar shows what your microphone picks up, not what's being sent. If nobody hears you:
- Check the in-game panel. If it says MUTED, you've toggled mute, either with your bound key or the mute button on the page. Press it again.
- "The server owner has muted you" on the page means exactly that. Only the owner can lift it, from their dashboard.
- Check the distance. In proximity mode you're silent beyond the server's range (100 m by default). Drive closer. The in-game panel greys out players who are out of range.
- Wrong microphone. The page has a microphone picker under the connection bar. If the bar doesn't move when you talk, pick a different device: "Microphone 1 / 2 / 3" lists are usually the sign the browser picked a dead input.
I can hear people, but there's no direction to it
Voices only come from the right side once the voice mod is loaded in your game. If everything sounds flat and centred, the mod didn't load: rejoin the server so BeamMP delivers it again. You'll still hear people by distance without it, just without the panning.
"Waiting for server" and it never connects
The page is in the room but your game server hasn't sent it any positions yet. Usually this means:
- You left the server (or it restarted) with the tab open. It reconnects on its own when you rejoin. Give it a few seconds.
- The server is stopped, or the owner just turned voice off. The page says "the server stopped sending positions" and goes idle; it reconnects when the server is back.
- Voice was just enabled for the first time and the server is mid-restart. Wait a minute and rejoin.
The voice keeps dropping and reconnecting
Almost always the network between you and the voice server: Wi-Fi drops, a VPN, or a very restrictive firewall. The page falls back to a TCP path automatically when UDP is blocked, but a network that blocks everything but web browsing may still struggle. Try without the VPN first. If a whole group is affected at once, the server owner should check the Game server link line in their dashboard (below).
The radio does nothing
/radio 19and nothing happens: the server may not have the radio switched on (it's a separate add-on), or voice isn't running on that server. Both are up to the owner.- Tuned, but you hear nothing: nobody's transmitting.
/radio whoshows who's on air. Remember the radio is hold to talk; the transmit key is bound in Options › Controls under "Radio". - Static: that's distance. The radio degrades into static rather than getting quieter. Close the gap, or use channel 9, which reaches the whole map.
- No display on screen:
/radio hudputs it up. Everything works from chat commands without it. - Server is in server-wide voice mode: everyone already hears everyone, so the radio has nothing to add and is deliberately quiet.
Owner-side problems
The switch is greyed out
Read the note under it:
- "Voice chat is available on paid servers — upgrade this server to turn it on." Voice launched on paid plans only. The free tier isn't open for it yet.
- "Start your server to turn voice chat on." The plugin is written to a running server.
- "Coming soon" means voice isn't released on this platform yet, which shouldn't be the case on Connect Hosting's own panel; if you see it, contact support.
I enabled it and nothing happened
The first enable on a server installs the plugin folder and restarts the server once, because BeamMP only picks up new plugin folders at boot. That restart takes about 20 seconds and the dashboard tells you it's happening. If the card shows Live but Game server link says "Waiting for the first player" or "Last seen …", nobody has joined since the restart yet; that line goes to Connected as soon as the plugin has a player to report.
If the server never came back, check the console for a normal boot. A server that won't start for other reasons (bad map path, missing AuthKey) won't run voice either.
Status says "Last seen 5 minutes ago" while players are on
The server plugin has stopped checking in. In order:
- Restart the server. This is the fix for the vast majority of cases.
- If that doesn't clear it, switch voice off and on again from the dashboard. That rewrites the plugin and its helper.
- Still stuck: open a ticket with your server name. The console line
[ConnectVoice] v… readyon boot tells us the plugin loaded.
I want to move the voice room to a different region
The region is fixed while voice is on, because moving a live room would drop everyone in it. Turn voice off, pick the region, turn it back on. The nearest region to your game server is preselected; only change it if your players are clearly somewhere else.
Players say voice is laggy
Voice audio goes player → voice server → player, so what matters is how far your players are from the voice region (Frankfurt, Virginia or Sydney), not from your game server. A European group on a US voice server pays around 100 ms each way. Check the Voice region line in Status, and move it if it's wrong (above).
Someone is abusing voice
The In voice now card has a Mute button next to every player. It silences them for the whole room and holds until you lift it. For anything worse, the Players tab's kick, ban and whitelist tools all apply to voice too, since voice only works while they're on the server.

Still stuck?
Open a ticket from the Support page with your server name and roughly when it happened. It helps to say whether it's one player or everyone, and what the page said at the time.
