Status as of 13 October 2026: console players cannot join a Terraria dedicated server. Re-Logic has said that will change with 1.4.6, Crossplay Phase One, and has given no release date. This page is the current position in Re-Logic's own words, what we expect Phase One to mean for a Connect server, and what we will do on the day it ships. We update it when Re-Logic does.
Today: what works and what does not
| Player's platform | Can they join your server today? |
|---|---|
| PC (Windows, Linux, macOS) on the same version | Yes — Join via IP with the IP, port and password from your join card |
| Mobile (iOS, Android) on the same version | Yes — the same way |
| PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch | No — not on any version released so far |
PC is on 1.4.5.8; consoles are on the 1.4.5.8.1 hotfix. A console client has no way to enter a server address, so nothing you set on your server changes this.
What Re-Logic has said
February 2026 State of the Game (the post that defined the phases):
"If you know the IP address and port number of your host, you can type it into any client to connect to their session. This is the functionality that we plan to initially release on console to complete Phase 1."
The same post describes Phase Two as "Cross-Network" play using join codes, names the console platforms only as "Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo", and notes the version rule: "Assuming your PC, dedicated server and mobile are all on the same release version".
July 2026 State of the Game: "the next update (currently expected to be Crossplay Phase One)".
August 2026 State of the Game: the team is "pushing directly into Terraria 1.4.6, which will be Phase One of Crossplay!"
September 2026 State of the Game (24 September, the latest): "finishing touches on Crossplay Phase One"; it "should be in your hands in the near future"; "we expect that submission to be ready in the near future". No date. Nothing about dedicated servers specifically, player caps on console, or hosting partners.
The Terraria wiki's summary of the plan is that Phase One lets consoles "connect to dedicated servers via the internet", with join codes to follow in Phase Two.
What we expect Phase One to mean for your server
Re-Logic's definition of Phase One is joining by IP address and port — exactly what a Connect server already is. Your IP and port are fixed, they are on the join card today, and the password is the same for everyone. So our expectation, and it is only that until we have tested it, is that a console player on 1.4.6 types the same three values a PC player types now.
Two things we are confident of because they are ours, not Re-Logic's:
- Your server will be on 1.4.6 the day it ships. Update on restart checks terraria.org on every start; the morning the new build is published, a restart is the whole update. See Updates & versions.
- Your address will not change. The IP and port are the same before and after.
What we do not know: whether consoles will have a different player limit, whether Phase One ships on all three console families at once, and whether anything about passwords differs. Re-Logic has not said, so neither do we.
What we will do on 1.4.6 day
- Confirm the new server build is on terraria.org and that a restarted Connect server installs it.
- Join our own test server from a console client on 1.4.6, by IP and port.
- Only once that join has worked: update this page, the Getting started guide and the join card to say console players can join, with the exact steps.
- Email every Terraria customer: restart to update.
Until step 3, every page on this site says the same thing as this one — planned, undated, not yet.
Phase Two
Re-Logic describes Phase Two as join codes, so that players can connect across networks without typing an address. There is no date for it either, and it is not needed for a dedicated server with a fixed address. We will document it if and when it reaches dedicated servers.
