About the pack
What is Better MC (BMC4)?
The Better MC series asks one question: what would Minecraft feel like with ten more years of content updates? BMC4, the Forge 1.20.1 edition, answers with overhauled world generation, hundreds of new structures, dungeon runs, tamable creatures and gentle progression hooks — while combat, building and mining stay recognisably vanilla. With 18 million downloads it is many groups’ first modpack, precisely because nobody has to relearn the game.
It suits long-lived SMP-style servers unusually well: exploration content spreads players across the map rather than into one mega-base, so a persistent world with a handful of regulars keeps feeling fresh. Our unlimited player slots fit that shape — invite freely, pay for resources, not seats.

Running Better MC well
Worldgen is the heavy part
BMC4’s cost is in its overhauled terrain and structures. 8GB is the floor for a smooth group server, 10–12GB if your community explores aggressively. Pre-generating around spawn flattens the biggest spikes.
It replaces a plugin server for mixed groups
Groups often reach for BMC when a Paper + plugins server starts feeling thin. You lose Bedrock crossplay (Forge has no Geyser build) but gain real content — worth stating to your group before you commit.
Prune what your group ignores
Unlike tightly-wired tech packs, BMC4 tolerates removing mods. If nobody touches a feature and it costs performance, disable it — the panel’s file manager exposes the mods folder, and a backup precedes every experiment.
Keep client and server versions in step
BMC4 updates fairly often. Update the server through our panel, then have players update via the CurseForge app — version-mismatch “can’t connect” errors are the pack’s most common support ticket, and this ordering avoids them.
