7 Days to Die Crossplay Servers: Can PS5 and Xbox Players Join?

Yes, since V2.0 — with crossplay on, EasyAntiCheat on and 8 or fewer slots. What TFP requires, what host guides add, the CROSSPLAY DISABLED FOR SESSION warning we measured on V3.4, and why a pinned or modded server is PC-only.

Yes: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can join a PC dedicated server in 7 Days to Die, and have been able to since V2.0 in June 2025. But a server is not crossplay just because it is running. It takes a short list of settings, and when one is wrong the server does not tell console players why. It just switches crossplay off for the session and carries on. This article covers how crossplay got here, what The Fun Pimps require, what the server does when a requirement is not met (we tested it), and what is still unknown.

How crossplay reached dedicated servers

The dates below are from The Fun Pimps' own Steam announcements.

  • 25 July 2024: V1.0 launches on "Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows".
  • 4 December 2024: V1.2 experimental. "This will open up crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC clients, however no dedicated servers just yet."
  • 10 December 2024: V1.2 stable. Crossplay for player-hosted games.
  • 6 March 2025: V2.0 status update. "We will not know officially if Consoles can play on dedicated servers until passing cert on each platform. Fingers crossed".
  • 27 June 2025: V2.0 stable, announced as "Biome Progression, Dynamic Storms, New Enemies, Dedicated Server Crossplay". The patch notes add "Dedicated server and LAN server browsers for PS5 and Xbox".

Since then, crossplay on a dedicated server has been a matter of configuring it correctly, not waiting for the developers.

Want to know whether your console friends can actually see the server?

New servers start with crossplay on and 8 player slots, the Server Settings tab refuses a combination the game would quietly switch off, and a crossplay card shows what the game decided at its last start. Backups, file manager and SFTP on every plan.

What the server needs

The Fun Pimps' V1.2 notes set out the PC side: "For cross-platform games to show in the server browser: … PC: Set the option General>Crossplay Enabled: On, but it also requires EAC Protected set to On". The same post set the limits: "Maximum supported player count for crossplay is 8 and world size of 8192."

On a dedicated server, that translates to these settings in serverconfig.xml:

SettingNeeds to beSource
ServerAllowCrossplaytrue (the default is false)The Fun Pimps
EACEnabledtrue (the default)The Fun Pimps ("EAC Protected set to On")
ServerMaxPlayerCount8 or fewerThe Fun Pimps ("Maximum supported player count for crossplay is 8")
IgnoreEOSSanctionsfalse (the default)Host guides, and the file's own description as quoted by the community wiki
ModsnoneHost guides

The community wiki at wiki.7d2d.net quotes the V3 file's description of crossplay. It says crossplay servers "will only be found in searches and joinable if sanctions are not ignored, and have a default or fewer player slot count". Host crossplay guides add the no-mods rule. The Fun Pimps have not, as far as we can find, published a single V3 list. Treat the last two rows as well-attested rather than official.

World size is the uncertain one. The 8192 limit is from the V1.2 announcement. The V3 config file, as the community wiki quotes it, lists generated world sizes up to 10240, and The Fun Pimps have not said whether the 8192 crossplay limit still applies. Until they do, the safe choice is a generated world no larger than 8K (8192) on a server you want console players on.

What happens when a requirement is not met

We tested this. V2.3's notes said The Fun Pimps "Added startup error when crossplay incompatible server config is detected and crossplay is enabled", and V2.1 added a log line for "serverconfig settings not compatible with consoles". You might expect a server with a bad crossplay configuration to refuse to start.

On V3.4.0 it does not. On 4 November 2026 we started a server with crossplay on and 12 player slots. It booted normally and logged:

WRN CROSSPLAY INCOMPATIBLE VALUE: PLAYER COUNT GREATER THAN MAX OF 8 WRN CROSSPLAY DISABLED FOR SESSION, CORRECT VALUES TO BE CROSSPLAY COMPATIBLE

Then it carried on with crossplay off for that session, which means a PC-only server. The setting in the file still said true, so an owner who never reads the log has no idea.

So the rule is: after any settings change, check the log of the next start for CROSSPLAY. The two lines above name the reason and say whether crossplay was dropped. If neither appears, the game did not report a problem with the configuration.

Gameplay settings and crossplay: the open question

Before V3, host guides published "allowed ranges" for crossplay servers: XP multiplier between 25 and 300, loot respawn days of at least 5, and similar. Those lists use property names V3 removed. Since V3.0, XPMultiplier, LootAbundance, LootRespawnDays, BloodMoonEnemyCount and the rest are inside the single SandboxCode (see SandboxCode explained).

Which Sandbox Code options make a V3 server crossplay-incompatible has not been published by The Fun Pimps or anyone else we could find. V2.1's notes say the developers "heavily reduced the settings and values important to crossplay servers", and V2.4 allowed "0 as well as 1 as valid LootRespawnDays value for crossplay servers". That shows the rules exist and change. It doesn't tell you the current ones. The log check above is the reliable test: if a sandbox setting breaks crossplay, the next start says so.

Versions: console players are always on the latest

PC players can pick an older branch of the game in Steam. Console players cannot: they are on the current release. A server pinned to an older version, to run an overhaul mod for example, can't be joined from a console, whatever its crossplay setting says. That is the trade in running Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy on a dedicated server. The overhauls are PC-only on two counts, mods and version.

How console players find the server

Since V2.0, PS5 and Xbox have a dedicated-server browser. Console players find a crossplay server there, so a clear ServerName, and a ServerVisibility of 2 (public), make life easier. Whether a console player can join by typing an address instead has not been documented by The Fun Pimps, so we don't promise it.

Or let us run it

On 7 Days to Die server hosting at Connect, crossplay is switched on when your server is created. Every plan has 8 player slots, and EasyAntiCheat is on by default. When you save settings on the Server Settings tab, the dashboard refuses any combination the game would quietly drop: EasyAntiCheat off, "Ignore EOS sanctions" on, or a generated world above 8K. A Console crossplay card reads the game's own verdict from the last start's log. It says whether console players can see the server, or the reason the game gave for switching crossplay off, mods included. The step-by-step is in Console crossplay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can PS5 and Xbox players join a 7 Days to Die dedicated server?

Yes, since V2.0 (27 June 2025), when the server has crossplay on, EasyAntiCheat on and 8 or fewer player slots. Host guides add no mods and EOS sanctions not ignored.

Is Nintendo Switch supported?

The Fun Pimps' crossplay announcements name PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Switch is not mentioned.

Why can't my console friends see my server?

Usually because the game switched crossplay off for the session. Check the log of the last start for CROSSPLAY INCOMPATIBLE VALUE and CROSSPLAY DISABLED FOR SESSION. The first line names the reason.

Does a crossplay server refuse to start if a setting is wrong?

Not on V3.4.0, in our test. With 12 slots it started, logged the two warnings above and ran without crossplay.

Can console players join a modded or older-version server?

No. Mods rule out crossplay, and console players are always on the latest version, so a pinned server is PC-only.

How many players can a crossplay server have?

Eight. The Fun Pimps: "Maximum supported player count for crossplay is 8."

Crossplay on from the first boot, and checked at every start

New servers start with crossplay on and 8 player slots, the Server Settings tab refuses a combination the game would quietly switch off, and a crossplay card shows what the game decided at its last start. Backups, file manager and SFTP on every plan.
