Four New BeamMP Gamemodes: Powerups, Capture the Flag, and Broadcast Cameras

Four new BeamMP mods that change how your server plays, not just how it looks: PowerUps arcade combat on any map, a DiRT 3-style capture-the-flag mode, and two broadcast cameras for running races. All one-click installable.

Four New BeamMP Gamemodes: Powerups, Capture the Flag, and Broadcast Cameras

Most BeamMP mod lists are cars and maps. Useful, but they don't change what you actually do on the server — you still end up doing laps or crashing into each other until someone suggests something else.

This drop is different. All four additions change the rules of play rather than the scenery: an arcade combat layer, a team objective mode, and a pair of broadcast cameras for anyone running organised races. Every one installs from the Mods tab on your panel in a single click — we push the client half to your players automatically and drop the server plugin into place, so nobody has to download a zip by hand.

All four are flagged New in the mod library for the next month, so they're easy to find on your panel.

PowerUps — Mario Kart, But Everything Deforms

This is the headline addition. PowerUps by OfficialLambdax scatters collectible pickups around the map, and driving through one hands you an offensive or defensive ability to use on everyone else. If you've played a kart racer you already understand it — the difference is that BeamNG's soft-body physics means a direct hit doesn't just spin someone out, it visibly wrecks their car.

The item roster runs from the familiar to the absurd, and the author has been steadily expanding it — the current build leans into police and military ordnance alongside the classic trip hazards.

What makes it worth installing is that it needs nothing else. It works on any map, so you don't have to rebuild your server around it — leave your usual map loaded, turn it on, and freeroam becomes a brawl. It's the single fastest way to make a quiet server fun again on a weeknight.

Worth knowing before you install: the author labels this mod Alpha and it's under active development. It's genuinely fun right now, but expect the occasional rough edge, and expect it to change. After the first boot it writes a config at Resources/Server/powerups/mp_settings/multiplayer.server.toml where you can tune which items appear and how often — edit it, then restart the server.

Transporter — Capture the Flag, Recreated from DiRT 3

If PowerUps is chaos, Transporter is chaos with a scoreboard. It's a faithful recreation of the Transporter mode from DiRT 3: one team has to carry the flag to the drop-off point, and the other team has to stop them using nothing but several tonnes of moving vehicle.

The reason it works so well in BeamNG is that "stopping someone" isn't an abstraction here. A well-timed PIT manoeuvre on the flag carrier is genuinely satisfying, and the resulting pile-up is the whole point. It ships with arena areas defined across several levels, so there's variety without you having to set anything up.

Shoutcast Camera and Heli Camera — For Servers That Run Events

These two are a different audience: if you host organised races, leagues, or anything you stream, the standard free camera is a poor tool for the job. Both of these are proper broadcast cameras.

Shoutcast Camera is a chase camera tuned for following a race — it tracks the field cleanly instead of leaving your commentator wrestling with a free-flying camera while trying to talk.

Shoutcast Heli Camera flies itself. It gives you the wide aerial shot that a chase camera physically cannot, which is what you want for showing the whole pack through a corner or covering a multi-car incident.

Once installed, both are bound under Options → Controls (look for Shoutcast and HeliCam). They slot in neatly alongside Race Flags and Simple Countdown, which we added earlier — flags, a countdown, and now two camera angles gets you most of the way to a watchable broadcast.

Both are marked work-in-progress by the author, and both are MIT licensed.

How to Install Any of These

On any Connect Hosting BeamMP server:

  1. Open your server in the panel and go to the Mods tab.
  2. Find the mod (the four above are tagged New) and hit Install.
  3. Restart the server when it finishes.

That's it. We upload the client mod into Resources/Client so it's pushed to every player who joins, and extract the server plugin into Resources/Server for you. There's no FTP step and no config editing unless you want to tune PowerUps.

One thing to remember with any client-side mod: BeamMP only reads the mod list when the server boots. If you install while the server is running, restart it or your players won't get the files.

A Note on Credit

All four of these are the work of OfficialLambdax, who is behind a large share of the genuinely interesting server-side work in the BeamMP ecosystem — including the six server scripts we added earlier. Each mod links back to its source repository above; if you get good use out of them, the repos are the place to say so and to report bugs.
