ReSkate Server Not Showing in the Browser? The Steam Token Fix

The ReSkate server browser now lists only servers with a Steam game server login token. How to make one for App ID 3354750, where it goes, and the other reasons a server goes missing or turns players away, version mismatches first.

Your ReSkate server is running, the console looks happy, and nobody can find it in Multiplayer > Servers. In October 2026 the most common reason changed: the ReSkate server browser now lists only servers that sign in to Steam with a game server login token. A server without one is still up and still joinable by code, but it is hidden from the list.

This post covers that fix first, then the other reasons a server goes missing or turns players away, in the order worth checking. The facts come from the ReSkate server README in the project's repository.

The rule: no Steam token, no listing

A ReSkate server signs in to Steam one of two ways:

  • Anonymously, the default when server.steam_token is empty. It gets a new Steam ID every time it starts, and with it a new join code.
  • With a Steam game server login token (GSLT). It keeps the same Steam ID across restarts, prints it at startup, and its join code stays the same.

The ReSkate README has always said the team could set the in-game browser to show only servers that have a token. That switch is now on. The server tells you when it applies: its log says the browser is hiding it. If you see that line, nothing else on this page matters until the token is in.

Rather not make and paste tokens? We create one for every server.

Connect creates a Steam game server token (App ID 3354750) for every ReSkate server, so players find it by name in Multiplayer > Servers, and it updates itself to the latest ReSkate release so versions match. From $3.99/month.

Start a ReSkate server

Fix: make a token and add it

  1. Sign in to Steam in a browser and open steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers.
  2. Enter App ID 3354750 (skate.'s app ID) and a memo that names the server, so you can tell tokens apart later. Create it.
  3. Copy the token into the server section of ReSkateServer.json, with the server stopped:
{ "server": { "name": "Sunday Session [EU]", "steam_token": "PASTE-YOUR-TOKEN-HERE" } }
  1. Start the server. It now prints its Steam ID at startup, and it should appear in the browser under its name.

Three rules come with tokens:

  • One token per running server. Two servers cannot share one.
  • Keep it private. Anyone with the token can sign in as your server. Do not paste it into Discord or a screenshot.
  • Stop before editing. The server writes its settings back to ReSkateServer.json while it runs, so an edit made with it running can be overwritten.

On a Connect server you do not need to do any of this: a token is created for every server when it is built. If you would rather use your own, paste it on the Server Settings tab and restart.

If it still is not listed

Work down this list. Each item is a setting or a fact from the server's own documentation.

listed is false

"listed": false keeps a server out of the browser on purpose, and players then need the join code. It is easy to forget you set it for a private session. Set it back to true with the server stopped, or type listed on in the console. On Connect, use the Listed setting on the Server Settings tab instead: the panel writes it into the file at every start.

The name trips the word filter

The ReSkate team keeps lists of words that are not allowed. Each player's game hides a server whose name contains one of the team's words from the browser, whatever the server's own settings say. If your server is listed for nobody, try a plainer name.

Players are searching for the wrong name

The browser finds servers by name, so a typo or a renamed server looks like a missing one. Server names are 1 to 64 letters, numbers and spaces, plus - _ / [ ] ( ). Send players the exact name, or skip the search and use the join code.

The server has not finished starting

Between start and the line saying the server is up, it is signing in to Steam and, if a release is waiting, possibly updating itself. Give it a moment and refresh the list.

It is listed, but players cannot join

Different ReSkate versions

Players and the server must run the same ReSkate release. Players get new releases through the launcher. The server checks GitHub when it starts and every 30 minutes after that, and installs a newer release once nobody is on. That leaves a window right after a release where some players are ahead of the server, or the server is ahead of a player who has not restarted their launcher.

Fix: type update in the server console to check and install a new release straight away (anyone on is told to rejoin). On the player's side, close the game and start it again through the ReSkate launcher. If you have turned auto_update off, this is now your job every release.

Wrong password

If password is set, players type it to join. On a Connect server, passwords are letters and numbers only, and a change on the Server Settings tab applies at the next restart.

The server is full

max_players is the cap, 1 to 249. Players listed in access.reserved_players_slots, and anyone whose role includes a reserved slot (the vip, moderator and admin roles do), can still join a full server: each one adds a slot beyond the cap, so the browser can show 33/32.

They are banned or kicked

data/bans.json holds the server's own bans. A kicked player stays out for players.kick_minutes, or until the next restart when that is 0. The server also turns away players the ReSkate team has banned from multiplayer while use_global_bans is on (the default).

The join code always works

Whatever the browser shows, the join code reaches the server. It is printed in the console when the server starts, and status shows it again with the name, map and player count. Without a token the code changes on every restart; with one it stays the same, which makes it safe to pin in your Discord.

On Connect

ReSkate server hosting creates the Steam game server token for you when the server is built, so it is listed in Multiplayer > Servers from the first boot. Name, password, listing and token are fields on the Server Settings tab, the server keeps itself on the latest ReSkate release, and plans start at $3.99/month for 16 players. The setup itself is covered in how to host a ReSkate server, every other setting in ReSkate server settings explained, and the help centre's players can't find or join my ReSkate server is the short checklist version of this post.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my ReSkate server disappear from the browser?

The ReSkate server browser now lists only servers with a Steam game server login token. Without one the server still runs and still takes join codes, but it is hidden. Add a token for App ID 3354750 and restart.

Where do I get a Steam game server login token?

At steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers, signed in to Steam. Use App ID 3354750 and create one token per running server.

Can two servers use the same token?

No. Each running server needs its own token.

Why does my join code change every restart?

The server is signing in to Steam anonymously, which gives it a new Steam ID each start. Set steam_token and it keeps the same ID and the same code.

My friend sees the server but cannot join. What now?

Check versions first: the player and the server must run the same ReSkate release. Type update in the server console, and have the player restart through the ReSkate launcher.
