How much RAM does an RLCraft server need?

Less than modern packs: 4GB minimum, 6GB recommended. It is a 1.12.2 pack, so its weight is in mob entities rather than 400-mod chunk generation — our 8GB plan gives a public server comfortable headroom.

Do you handle the old Forge and Java versions?

Yes — this is the main reason to host RLCraft rather than self-host it. The pack needs 1.12.2-era Forge and a matching legacy Java runtime, and provisioning sets both up automatically.

Is RLCraft fun on a server, given how hard it is?

It is at its best there. Death is constant early on, and shared servers turn that into the joke — gravestone recovery runs, base defence against dragons, communal progression through the reskilling grind. 2–10 players is the sweet spot.

Can Bedrock players join an RLCraft server?

No — RLCraft is a Forge content pack, so every player needs Java Edition with RLCraft installed on their client, most easily via the CurseForge app.

Can I tone the difficulty down for my group?

Partly, yes. Config files control some of the harshest behaviours (grave loss, mob griefing, certain events), and you can edit them through the panel’s file manager. The core difficulty is the pack’s identity, though — going in blind together is the experience.

What is RLCraft?

RLCraft (“Real Life Craft”) reworks survival into something closer to a roguelike: you spawn unable to punch trees, drinking unpurified water hurts you, night-time is genuinely lethal, and levelling unlocks the right to even use decent gear. Nearly 30 million downloads later it remains the pack people dare their friends into — a shared server turns its cruelty into comedy, and surviving your first dragon raid together is a genuine bonding exercise.

Because it lives on Minecraft 1.12.2, RLCraft needs an era-appropriate Forge and Java setup that trips up manual installs on modern machines. Our installer deploys the pack’s server files with the correct legacy runtime, so “it works on my client but the server won’t start” is not a rabbit hole you have to go down.

Older pack, lighter footprint

RLCraft is gentler on RAM than modern kitchen-sinks: 4GB starts it, 6GB keeps a friend group smooth. Spend the savings on headroom if you run a bigger, public server — respawning hordes and Lycanites mobs are entity-heavy.

Expect entity pressure, not worldgen pressure

The load profile is mobs, not chunks: Lycanites events and infernal mobs can spike a tick. If your group loves mob events, keep view-distance moderate and let the pack’s own spawn tuning do its job.

Backups turn rage-quits into stories
