SkyFactory 5
Server Hosting
The skyblock series returns, painted one colour at a time.
SkyFactory 5 is darkosto’s fifth instalment of the series that defined modded skyblock, rebuilt around a new resource system: you create materials from dye and colour, then automate your way across the void. It runs on Forge 1.20.1, a much newer base than SkyFactory 4, and needs Java 17. Order here and the pack comes pre-selected, with the right Forge, the right Java and the official server files installed for you.

How much RAM does SkyFactory 5 need?
SkyFactory 5 needs 6GB of server memory to start and runs best on 8GB — the same guidance our checkout enforces, so a plan that can't run the pack can't be bought with it. Every size below carries it; resize anytime and your world moves with you.

SkyFactory 5 server pack & server files
SkyFactory 5 publishes its server files as a separate Server Pack download on the pack’s CurseForge Files tab. It is not the same zip as the client pack: client-only mods are stripped out and start scripts are included. SkyFactory 5 on CurseForge ↗
Running the SkyFactory 5 server yourself
- 01Install Java 17 — the runtime Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1 is built for. The wrong Java is the most common reason a pack server refuses to start.
- 02Unzip the server pack into an empty folder and run its start script (or the Forge installer it bundles).
- 03Give the JVM 8GB with -Xmx — 6GB is the realistic floor for this pack.
- 04Accept the EULA in eula.txt, forward port 25565, and keep the machine on whenever anyone wants to play.
About the pack
What is SkyFactory 5?
Instead of ore trees and sieves, SkyFactory 5 makes colour the core resource. Dye comes from dripstone, mob drops and even creeper explosions, and coloured materials feed the tech and magic mods that carry you to the endgame. It is also the first SkyFactory to include Create, alongside returning favourites such as Mystical Agriculture, Draconic Evolution and RFTools Dimensions.
Mobs are earned, not found. You open gateways to fight waves for loot, and each completed gateway gives a trophy that lets you spawn that mob on demand. A task book full of goals and silly challenges (hats, villager trading, eating dirt) gives a group plenty to split up and race. If your group loved SkyFactory 4, this is the modern sequel, and we host both.
From our game servers team
Running SkyFactory 5 well
Size it like a modern pack
SkyFactory 4 runs in 4–6GB. SkyFactory 5 is a newer, bigger pack: our bench server idled at 5.2GB with nobody online. Start at 8GB, and plan for more once the group’s factories grow.
Java 17, not Java 8
Forge 1.20.1 needs Java 17. That is the most common way self-hosted SkyFactory 5 servers fail after people reuse an old SkyFactory 4 setup. Provisioning selects Java 17 for you.
Gateways are your mob farm
Mob spawning is overhauled: gateways and trophies decide what spawns and where. Run gateway fights near your base rather than out in the void, and the server stays calm when several players are farming at once.
