How PS5 players join
Join by Code, Not by IP
A PS5 has no address box. A crossplay server prints a six-digit join code every time it boots, and your friends type that code on the Join Game screen — so the code and the password are the whole setup.
Deploy with crossplay on
Every Valheim server here starts with Enable Crossplay set to 1 on the Server Settings tab, which puts it on the crossplay backend a PS5 can reach. A Steam-only server is invisible to PlayStation, so leave that setting alone unless you want a PC-only world.
Read the join code off the console
When the world finishes loading, the console on your Overview tab prints “Session ‹name› registered with join code 123456”. That six-digit number is the address a PlayStation uses. It is issued fresh on every boot, so always read the newest line before you share it.
Send the code and the password together
Anyone with the code can find the server, so the password is the lock. Valheim needs at least five characters. Post both in one pinned message — most “it doesn’t work” complaints are a friend trying yesterday’s code after a restart.
On the PS5: Join Game, then Join Code
From Start Game your friend chooses Join Game, picks Join Code, types the six digits and then the password. If the server is not listed, host support pages report a “PlayStation Network Only” toggle on that screen that hides crossplay servers until it is switched off.

What Is Different About PS5
Mods do not exist on PS5
Iron Gate is direct about it: Valheim has no official mod support and none at all on consoles. A PlayStation copy cannot load anything, so a server running gameplay mods will reject or break for your PS5 friends. For a mixed group, keep the server vanilla — which is exactly what we deploy.
PlayStation patches can land a few days after PC
Iron Gate’s own 1.0.17 notes say a patch “will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms”. The server updates from Steam on restart, so after a PC patch a PS5 player can see “Incompatible version” until Sony publishes theirs. Our panel shows the server build, so you can tell which side is waiting.
