Nintendo Switch 2
Valheim Server Hosting
Switch 2 Friends Welcome
Valheim came to Nintendo for the first time with 1.0 on Switch 2, and a dedicated server is how a Switch player shares a persistent world with PC friends. Crossplay is on from the first boot; they join with a six-digit code and the world keeps running while the Switch sleeps.

How Switch 2 players join
Join by Code, Not by IP
A Switch 2 has no address box. A crossplay server prints a six-digit join code every time it boots, and your friends type that code on the Join Game screen — so the code and the password are the whole setup.
Start the server with crossplay on
Every Valheim server here boots with Enable Crossplay set to 1 on the Server Settings tab. That is the setting that lets a Nintendo Switch 2 reach the server at all — without it the world is Steam-only and a Switch cannot see it.
Find the six-digit code in the console
Once the world loads, the Overview console prints “Session ‹name› registered with join code 123456”. That code is what a Switch 2 player types. A new one is issued on every boot, so always copy the most recent line.
Share code and password in one message
Set a password of at least five characters on the Server Settings tab and send it with the code. If you schedule a nightly restart, tell the group the time — the code changes when the server comes back and a stale one is the usual reason a friend cannot get in.
On the Switch 2: Join Game, Join Code
From Start Game your friend chooses Join Game, selects Join Code, enters the six digits and then the password. Online play and play with other platforms have to be allowed in the console’s own settings; no server setting can change that side.

What Is Different About Switch 2
The world does not sleep when the Switch does
A Switch 2 cannot host a Valheim server, and a player-hosted world only exists while the host is in it. On a dedicated server the world keeps its day-night cycle, crops and raids running on our hardware, so a handheld session can pick up exactly where the last one left off.
No mods on Switch 2
Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ says there is no mod support on consoles. A Switch copy cannot load anything extra, so a server running gameplay mods would lock Switch players out. The vanilla server we deploy is the right one for a mixed group.
Updates reach consoles a little later
Iron Gate’s 1.0.17 notes say a patch “will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms”. The server takes the Steam build on restart, so after a PC patch a Switch 2 player can see “Incompatible version” until the Nintendo build arrives. The panel shows the server version so you know which side is behind.
