From today, every paid BeamMP server on Connect Hosting has proximity voice chat. It's one switch in the dashboard, it costs nothing extra, and your players need to download nothing. Turn it on, and the people near your car can hear you.
We've called it Connect Voice, and it comes with a CB radio.
What you get
Proximity voice. Full volume within 30 metres of another car, fading out to silence at 100 metres. Voices come from the right side, so a car pulling alongside sounds like it's alongside. Both distances are yours to tune, live, without disconnecting anyone. A busy freeroam server stops being silent and doesn't turn into a 20-person conference call either.
Or server-wide. For a small group or a race where everyone should hear the caller, flip to "everyone hears everyone". Flip back whenever.
A CB radio. Switch it on under voice and your server gets channels 1 to 40. Players start on channel 19, the trucker channel, and channel 9 reaches the whole map like the real emergency channel. Hold a key to transmit. We did one thing differently from proximity here on purpose: a radio that's far away doesn't get quieter, it gets dirtier. The signal narrows and fills with static as a driver drops back, and cuts out at the edge of range. Convoys that stay together sound like convoys. /radio 19 in chat tunes in without binding a key.
Owner controls. The Voice Chat tab shows who's in voice right now. Mute anyone for the whole room; it holds until you lift it.
Three voice regions. Frankfurt, Virginia and Sydney. Your server's room is put on the nearest one, so an Australian server isn't routing voice through Europe.
Included. No key to buy, no second subscription, no per-player tier. Every paid plan already has unlimited player slots, and voice has no player tier of its own.
Join the server. The voice mod (5 KB) arrives with the rest of the server's resources. A small panel in the corner shows who's nearby.
Type /voice. The link is copied to the clipboard. Paste it into Chrome, Firefox or Edge, press Turn on voice chat, allow the microphone.
Talk. Voice activity is the default. Bind a mute key under Options › Controls if you'd like one.
The tab is the microphone. Leave it open behind the game; it remembers you, reconnects next session, and follows you between Connect servers.
The "How your players use it" card from the dashboard
Why the microphone is in a browser
Because it can't be in the game. BeamNG's mod sandbox blocks microphone access, deliberately, and that's a rule we're glad exists: it's why a mod you downloaded can't listen to you. Every voice solution for BeamNG runs the mic outside the game for the same reason. Given the choice between shipping a program to install and a web page, we chose the page: nothing to download, works on any operating system, always the current version. Playback, positions and the in-game panel all run inside BeamNG. Only the mic lives in the tab.
One honest note
Voice on a server is public to that server, the same as text chat. Proximity decides what you hear, not who's allowed to listen. If you need a closed group, that's what a whitelisted server is for.
Turning it on
Open your BeamMP server, go to the Voice Chat tab, and flip the switch. The first time, your server restarts once, for about 20 seconds, to load the plugin. Everything after that applies live: range, mode, the radio, off and on.
