Enshrouded 1.0 went live on Steam and PlayStation 5 on 15 October 2026, with hotfix 1.0.0.1 following the same day. If you run a dedicated server for a group, there are six things to check in the first week, and most of them take a minute. This is the checklist we worked through on Connect's own Enshrouded servers on 15 and 16 October, with the log lines to look for so you are not guessing. The longer background, with Keen's changelog quoted line by line, is in what 1.0 changed for server owners.
1. Confirm the server is actually on 1.0
The game does not tell you. Open logs/enshrouded_server.log and look near the top for the version line:
Game Version (SVN): 1267041
1267041 is the 1.0.0.1 hotfix build, the number Keen printed in the hotfix notes. If you see 1024233, the server is still on the September Early Access build, every 1.0 player will be refused, and the update step failed silently. Server still on the old build after 1.0 walks through why that happens and how to fix it.
On a Connect server, the Console tab shows the same log, and a restart from the dashboard re-runs the Steam update first.
2. Check the world migrated
1.0 introduced a new save format. The first time the 1.0 server loads an Early Access world it backs the files up and converts them, on its own. In the log it looks like this, one line per save slot plus the index:
[savedata2-migration] Found file '3ad85aea'...
[savedata2-migration] Found file '3ad85aea-1'...
[savedata2-migration] Add index file '3ad85aea-index' with container '3ad85aea-9'
followed by Read result:ok. We watched a world that had been running since 1 October come through this with nothing lost. If you do not see those lines on the first 1.0 boot, the server is either on the old build (see step 1) or loading a world that was already converted. The details, and what the files in savegame now mean, are in Enshrouded 1.0 save migration on a dedicated server.
Take your own copy of savegame anyway. The migration keeps a backup, but a copy on your machine is the one you control.
3. Warn the group about the skill reset
From Keen's changelog: "When playing for the first time in version 1.0.0.0 with an existing save game, the skill tree will be reset. Please make sure to spend the skill points again!" Character progress is stored on each player's own machine, so this happens when they update, not when you do, and there is nothing on the server that causes or prevents it. Tell people before they log in and find an empty tree.
4. Roles and passwords: nothing to do
Keen's changelog, on dedicated servers: "the user groups with the associated passwords work as before — promoting and demoting is not possible while playing on the server." Your Admin and Friend groups in enshrouded_server.json carried over on every server we checked. Roles and user groups explained is unchanged.
5. Look at the new enemy-count option
The changelog adds "a new option called 'Automatic' to the server setting that controls the amount of enemies that spawn in each encounter", which scales encounters to how many players are present. It is a world setting, so on a dedicated server it belongs with the other difficulty values in enshrouded_server.json, which the server reads at boot and rewrites at shutdown. If your group is often two or three people on a server sized for more, it is worth turning on. On Connect, world settings are edited while the server is stopped; the Server Settings tab's presets and the file manager both write the same file.
6. Do not promise crossplay
Keen's launch FAQ of 13 October 2026: "Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch ... We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us." A PC dedicated server takes Steam players. PS5 players play with PS5 players. Xbox is slated for spring 2027. Is Enshrouded crossplay at 1.0? tracks it.
If you are starting fresh
A server created on or after 15 October installs 1.0 directly; there is nothing to migrate and the version line reads 1267041 from the first boot. Enshrouded server hosting at Connect sets the roles, passwords, slots and preset for you on the Server Settings tab, and the getting started guide covers the first join.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my Enshrouded server is on 1.0?
Look for Game Version (SVN): 1267041 near the top of logs/enshrouded_server.log. 1024233 is the Early Access build.
Does the 1.0 server convert my old world automatically?
Yes. On first boot it logs [savedata2-migration] lines for each save file, backs the old ones up and writes the new format. Keep your own copy of savegame as well.
Why can nobody join my server since 1.0 came out?
Almost always because the server did not update and is still on 1024233. Players on 1.0 cannot join an Early Access build. Re-run the Steam update and check the version line.
Do I need to redo the Admin and Friend passwords?
No. Keen's changelog says user groups and passwords work as before on dedicated servers, and that matched what we saw.
Will my friends on PS5 be able to join my PC server?
Not at launch. Keen says crossplay is being worked on with no estimate.
Do skill points reset on the server?
No. The reset is client-side and happens once per character the first time they play on 1.0. The server does not store skills.
