Enshrouded leaves Early Access on 15 October 2026, and for the first time it will exist on two platforms at once: Steam, and PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro), per Keen's June announcement as covered by Gematsu and Eurogamer.de. The moment two platforms exist, everyone asks the same question: can PC and PS5 friends play together?
The short answer, straight from Keen: no, not at 1.0.
What Keen has actually said
In an interview with Eurogamer.de published 5 July 2026, Keen Games' Julien Koenen said crossplay will not be ready for the 1.0 launch. The reason he gave is technical rather than commercial: Enshrouded's fully terraformable voxel world — terrain edits, large builds, water simulation — is hard to keep consistent across platforms, and the team did not want to compromise on quality to hit the date. Crossplay is planned for a patch after launch. No date has been given.
Two supporting facts, for anyone who wants to check the primary sources:
- Keen's own FAQ has no crossplay entry at all — the feature is not promised anywhere on Keen's pages as of this writing.
- The Xbox Series X|S version is not part of the 15 October launch. Keen has said it comes in spring 2027, in the same interview and in the June announcement coverage.
We will update this post when Keen dates the crossplay patch. Until then, treat any page that says "Enshrouded crossplay is coming on [date]" as guessing.
What this means for a dedicated server
Enshrouded's dedicated server is a Steam application. At 1.0 that has a very concrete consequence:
- A dedicated server serves the Steam version of the game. Your PC group — up to 16 players — shares one persistent world on it, online whether or not the host is (how the server works at 1.0).
- A PS5 player cannot join that server at launch. Not because of a setting on the server — there is no setting — but because crossplay does not exist yet. Nothing a host (us included) does changes that.
- When the crossplay patch ships, that is the moment mixed PC/PS5 groups become possible. What it will mean for dedicated servers specifically, Keen has not said — we will test it the day it lands and update this post with what we find.
The practical advice before 15 October
If your group is planning to buy Enshrouded at 1.0 and wants to share one persistent world, the platform choice matters more than anything else this month:
- Group all on PC (Steam): a dedicated server works today and at 1.0. This is the setup with no caveats — 16 slots, world online 24/7. Enshrouded server hosting has one live in about a minute.
- Group split between PC and PS5: you cannot share a server at launch. If shared-world play is the point, the split half buying on Steam is currently the only way to get it.
- Group all on PS5: a dedicated server does not help you yet. Play together through the game's own multiplayer, and bookmark this post for the crossplay patch.
That is honestly the whole picture. It is less exciting than "yes, crossplay day one" — but it is what Keen has said, and it is better to know it before the group buys on two storefronts and finds out on launch night.
