Palworld Backups & Saves: Protecting Your World
Your Palworld world — every Pal, base and unlocked tech — lives in a single save on the server. Losing it means losing everyone's progress, so it's worth two minutes to understand how saving and backups work on your Connect server.
How Saving Works
Palworld auto-saves the world on a timer. You control it in the World Settings tab under Saves & Platform:
- Auto-Save Interval — how often (in seconds) the world is written to disk. The default is fine for most servers; lower it if you'd rather lose less on a crash, higher it if you're chasing a smoother frame rate on a big base.
- Save Backups — keep this on. It tells the server to hold rolling copies of the world save so a single corrupt write can't wipe your progress.
The world also saves on a clean shutdown, so always Stop the server from the panel rather than pulling it out from under itself.
Before You Change Anything Risky
Take a manual backup before you:
- Change big World Settings (difficulty, death penalty, guild limits)
- Update to a new Palworld version
- Move your server to another region
Use the Backups tab in your panel to create a snapshot. Name it something you'll recognise ("before 1.0 update"). Restoring later is one click.
Restoring a Save
Something went wrong? In the Backups tab, pick the snapshot you want and choose Restore. The server stops, swaps in that world, and you can start again. Restoring replaces the current world, so take a fresh backup first if there's anything in the present state you might still want.
The One That Bites People: Region Transfers
Moving your server between regions copies your files — but if a transfer fails partway (it can, if the destination is out of space) it may auto-revert, and an out-of-date save is a real risk. Always take a manual backup before requesting a region move. See regions and transfers for how moves work.
Bringing a Co-op World From Single-Player
Started on a shared co-op world and want it on the dedicated server? That's a different, careful process — follow How to move your Palworld co-op world to a dedicated server so you don't lose your character.
Lost a save and no backup? Contact support straight away — the sooner we look, the more we can recover.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is my Palworld world save stored?
On the server itself, inside the save folder your panel manages — the world file is small (around 10 MB), which is why backups are quick and cheap to keep.
How do I stop losing progress on my Palworld server?
Turn on Save Backups in World Settings, take a manual backup before anything risky, and always Stop the server cleanly rather than force-killing it.
Does moving my Palworld server to another region wipe my world?
No — a move copies your world with it. But always take a manual backup first, because a failed transfer can auto-revert to an earlier state.
How big are Palworld save files?
Tiny — a single world save is roughly 10 MB, and even heavy servers rarely exceed ~60 MB of backups. Storage is almost never your limiting factor.
