Cursed Walking
Server Hosting
Zombies by day and night, a horde every tenth day, and a dimension under the bedrock.
Cursed Walking is the modern zombie-apocalypse pack for Forge 1.20.1: infected that climb on each other and spread infection, waves that get nastier as the days pass, guns from Timeless and Classics, and cities, bunkers, labs and oil rigs to strip for loot. Its endgame lies below the world in the Depths. The author recommends a proper server for any group of three or more, and that is what this is: order here and the pack comes pre-selected, with Forge, Java 17 and the official server files installed before your first join.

How much RAM does Cursed Walking need?
Cursed Walking needs 6GB of server memory to start and runs best on 8GB — the same guidance our checkout enforces, so a plan that can't run the pack can't be bought with it. Every size below carries it; resize anytime and your world moves with you.

Cursed Walking server pack & server files
Cursed Walking publishes its server files as a separate Server Pack download on the pack’s CurseForge Files tab — the newest server-ready build is Cursed Walking-v3.3 (patch). It is not the same zip as the client pack: client-only mods are stripped out and start scripts are included. Cursed Walking on CurseForge ↗
Running the Cursed Walking server yourself
- 01Install Java 17 — the runtime Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1 is built for. The wrong Java is the most common reason a pack server refuses to start.
- 02Unzip the server pack into an empty folder and run its start script (or the Forge installer it bundles).
- 03Give the JVM 8GB with -Xmx — 6GB is the realistic floor for this pack.
- 04Accept the EULA in eula.txt, forward port 25565, and keep the machine on whenever anyone wants to play.

About the pack
What is Cursed Walking?
Cursed Walking turns vanilla survival into a siege. Zombies spawn in daylight as well as at night, stack on top of one another to get over walls, travel in hordes and attack in force every ten days, and a bite can infect you. The apocalypse moves through phases, so the runners and brutes of later days are a different threat from the shamblers of the first week. You answer with guns from Timeless and Classics plus two addons, and armour and melee weapons from Marbled’s Arsenal and Melees.
Exploration carries the progression. The overworld is scattered with cities, bunkers, laboratories, ruins and rare finds such as a nuke site and offshore oil rigs, all on custom loot tables that include guns. Find the map to the drill room and you can drop through a hole in the bedrock into the Depths, an endgame dimension with its own biomes, buildings and two custom creatures, the Drone and the Feral. The pack has passed 8.6 million downloads, and the author has teased a v4 that rebuilds the cities.
From our game servers team
Running Cursed Walking well
Build for the tenth night
Hordes arrive every ten days and zombies can climb each other, so a single wall is not a defence. Agree a shared base early and give it depth: a moat, a second wall, and a way off the roof. A server keeps the day counter running for everyone, so the next horde will not wait for latecomers.
Leave city generation on its defaults
Cities are enabled out of the box. The author discourages switching them on again by hand because it can cause chunk-generation errors, so resist editing the worldgen config on a fresh server and let the pack generate the world it was built for.
Treat the Depths as a planned expedition
The Depths is where the best loot is and where the Drone and Feral live. Take a manual backup from the panel before the group drops through the bedrock, so a failed run costs the trip rather than the base.
Match the client version exactly
Cursed Walking publishes patches between releases, and Forge refuses a client whose mod list differs from the server’s. When you update the server from the panel, tell your group to update in the CurseForge app before they try to join.
