How to Make a Cobbleverse Server (No Server Pack? Here’s Why)

Cobbleverse has no official server pack. Build the server from the pack itself — mods, config and the datapacks its gyms live in — on Fabric 1.21.1, or let a host install it server-side.

Cobbleverse is Cobblemon turned into a full Pokémon adventure — custom gyms with animated leaders, an Elite Four and Champion for each region, raids, legendary altars and its own structures, all on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1. It is also the pack people most often go looking for a "server pack" for, and don't find one. That's not you missing a download: Cobbleverse doesn't publish an official server pack. You build the server from the pack itself.

Here's how — the self-hosted way first, then the shortcut.

What's actually in the pack

Cobbleverse ships as a Modrinth pack (.mrpack). Version 1.7.42, the current release at the time of writing (late October 2026), contains:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric loader 0.18.4. Java 21 is required.
  • 168 mod and data files, including Cobblemon 1.7.3 — deliberately not the newest Cobblemon. Run the pack's versions, not the latest jars.
  • A config folder of over 200 config files that tune the mods to work together.
  • A datapacks folder — and this is the part that matters. The gyms, trainers, loot and regions are datapacks (COBBLEVERSE-DP, COBBLEVERSE-RCT-DP, COBBLEVERSE-Loot-DP, with the Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh region packs in datapacks/extra), loaded by the Global Packs mod from the instance folder.
  • Shader packs and resource packs, which are client-only.

The trap: a Cobbleverse server with no gyms

The obvious way to "make a server" is to copy the mods folder onto a Fabric server. It boots — and plays like plain Cobblemon, because the gyms, trainers and regions were never mods. Copy mods, config and datapacks together, or you've built a different game from the one your players installed.

Self-hosting, step by step

  1. Install the pack client-side first (Modrinth App, Prism or any launcher that imports .mrpack) so you have a complete Cobbleverse instance folder to copy from.
  2. Install the Fabric server for Minecraft 1.21.1 with loader 0.18.4 into an empty folder, and run it once to fetch its libraries.
  3. Copy mods, config and datapacks from the client instance into the server folder, keeping the datapacks/extra layout exactly as the pack ships it.
  4. Start the server and read the log. Fabric skips mods that declare themselves client-only, but not every mod declares it. If the server crashes on boot naming a rendering, shader or menu mod, remove that one from the server's mods folder (only the server's) and try again.
  5. Accept the EULA (eula=true in eula.txt), set memory in your start command, and start a fresh world so the pack's structures generate.
  6. Open TCP 25565 on your router, turn on the whitelist (whitelist on, whitelist add <name>), and share your public IP.

The usual self-hosting fine print applies: the world lives only while that PC is on, your home upload carries every player, your IP is the address everyone shares, and a machine that is also playing Cobbleverse is splitting its RAM between a server and a heavily modded client.

How much RAM

The pack's own page asks for 6GB or more on a server for multiplayer, and that is a fair floor for two or three players. Cobbleverse's load is its creatures — over a thousand species spawning around every active player, plus raids and trainer battles — so we size it at 8GB minimum and 10GB for a group that plays at the same time. The cross-pack reasoning is in our modded Minecraft RAM guide.

Inviting friends

Each player installs Cobbleverse from Modrinth or CurseForge on the same pack version as the server, then joins by address. Because the pack pins Cobblemon 1.7.3, a player on a plain Cobblemon client of a newer version can't join — everyone plays the pack.

One rule worth knowing before you share the server further: the pack's terms allow private servers for friends, but a public server can't be named or advertised as a "COBBLEVERSE Server" — "COBBLEVERSE Compatible" is fine if it's clearly independent — and the pack's custom structures, trainers and datapacks can't be used on public servers that run a commercial shop.

Keeping it updated

Back up the world, then update all three folders from the new release — mods, config and datapacks — and have every player move to the same version. A datapack update can change gyms or loot, so a backup before every update is the only safe habit.

The shortcut

Everything above is what Cobbleverse server hosting automates. Order with the pack pre-selected and provisioning installs it server-side straight from Modrinth — mods, configs and the datapacks the gyms live in — on Fabric 1.21.1 with the right Java, sized to the pack's real memory needs. Whitelist, console, file manager, scheduled off-server backups and pack updates live in the panel, and the server runs 24/7 in a datacenter region near your group. Still choosing a Pokémon pack? Cobblemon vs Pixelmon compares all four options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an official Cobbleverse server pack?

No. Cobbleverse is published as a Modrinth pack without a separate server download. You build a server from the pack's own mods, config and datapacks folders, or use a host that installs it server-side for you.

Why does my Cobbleverse server have no gyms or trainers?

The datapacks folder didn't make it to the server. Cobbleverse's gyms, trainers, loot and regions are datapacks loaded by the Global Packs mod, not mods — copy the folder from a client install, keeping its layout, and start a fresh world for the structures.

How much RAM does a Cobbleverse server need?

The pack's page asks for 6GB or more for multiplayer. We recommend 8GB as the floor and 10GB for a group playing together, because creature spawns, raids and trainer battles all scale with active players.

How do I play Cobbleverse with friends?

One person runs a server — self-hosted from the pack files as above, or hosted — and every player installs the same Cobbleverse version and joins by address. Everyone has to be on the same version; Cobbleverse pins its own Cobblemon release.

Can I update Cobblemon inside Cobbleverse to the latest version?

Not safely. The pack is built and configured around the Cobblemon version it ships (1.7.3 in 1.7.42). Swapping in a newer Cobblemon can break its addons and datapacks — wait for a Cobbleverse release instead.
